There is no single answer to the question, “Do I need B1 for my visa?” Language skills may matter for some purposes of stay. The required level, proof and timing depend on the specific process. A language certificate is therefore not automatically required for every visa.
Start with information from the Federal Foreign Office and the German mission responsible for your place of residence. Look up the exact purpose of stay, such as training, employment or family reunification. If anything is unclear, ask the responsible office before booking an exam. The Federal Foreign Office also gives a rule about how old an exam result should be: as a general rule, the exam date should be no more than one year old. If individual exam modules were retaken, the date of the oldest module passed may also matter. What does telc Deutsch B1 test?
The external telc Deutsch B1 exam covers reading, listening, writing and speaking. In the written part, you work with texts and listening situations and write a text of your own. In the oral part, you need to express yourself clearly and communicate with another person. Before preparing, read the current telc materials for the exact tasks and timings.
A video course or exam simulation can support learning and practice. It is not the telc exam and does not issue a telc certificate. The exam is organised and administered by an appropriately licensed external exam centre. Treat registration, fees and possible travel to the exam location as separate steps in your plan.
