An exam is completely optional. Many people learn simply for personal growth or their career and never take one. If you do need a certificate: telc, Goethe, and ÖSD are the three official providers. We prepare you thoroughly; you take the exam in a city of your choice.

We do not issue official certificates. Only the recognized examination center does this. You pay the exam fee directly there; You can find the current benchmark values and possible BAMF takeovers above.
Both certificates are equally recognized. telc exams are often a bit cheaper and available in more cities. The Goethe Institut, on the other hand, has a very well-known name worldwide, which can be a real advantage especially abroad.
The examination fees for Goethe Germany in 2026 are: A1 155 €, A2 175 € and B1 259 €. telc and ÖSD are determined by the respective examination center. Published prices for B1 are often around 160–180 €. With DTZ, self-payers usually pay around 160–180 €; with BAMF authorization the fee can be covered in full.
The certificate itself does not officially expire. However, authorities or embassies (for example for family reunification) often require documents that are no more than 1 year old.
No. The exam fee is paid directly to the external exam center of your choice. V-IZ is the platform for your preparation, the exam itself is a separate process.
